Adding the new features or updates is not backwards compatible. According to the definition of the Backwards compatibility, which states that response from the old version of the Vitara Charts should still be valid in the newer versions.
All minor updates and bug fixes are implemented to preserve compatibility with existing properties. Major updates that significantly change the behaviour of the Vitara charts in the developed software with the newer versions of the software.
Changes of Backwards compatibility in the Vitara charts
Stack Totals for Stacked Bar/Column charts are enabled (by default) only for charts created/modified after version 4.0. The dossiers created with stacked bar/column charts in 3.9 build when opened in 4.0 to 4.3 versions will by default show the stack totals.
As per the customer requirement of backwards compatibility from 3.9 version, again the Stack totals are disabled by default in 184.108.40.2068 version of Vitara charts.
Below are the screenshots in 3.9 and 4.0 versions, where stacktotals cannot be seen in 3.9 build and can be seen in 4.0 to 4.3 builds by default.
In the below screenshot, the StackTotals are not enabled by default in 220.127.116.118 version of Vitara charts.
Data label contrast color feature added to the following series types of charts (bar, column, area, stacked bar, stacked column, histogram, column range, bubble). This feature is enabled by default for the above mentioned series type and supports backwards compatibility for versions till 3.9 build.
From 4.0 to 4.3versions data label contrast color feature is not enabled.
As per the customer requirement of backwards compatibility, again we implemented the feature in 18.104.22.1688 version of Vitara charts.
Below are the screenshots in 3.9 and 4.0 versions, where data labels contract color can be seen in 3.9 build and cannot see in 4.0 to 4.3 builds
In the below screenshot, the data labels contrast color feature is shown in 22.214.171.1248 version of Vitara charts.
The Hide Axis option hides the Axis labels, Axis Lines and Axis title in previous builds before 4.3, but from 4.3 version, the axis hiding option hides only Axis labels, Axis lines and not Axis title.
Below are the examples, where the hide axis option is in disabled and enabled state in 4.0 version
The same dossier with hide axis option enabled is opened in the 4.3 version shows the Axis title and hides the Axis lines and Axis labels.
By default, till 4.1 version of the Waterfall chart is shown in Horizontal axis position. From 4.2 version and above are displayed in Vertical axis where ‘Invert Axis’ property is enabled by default.
But the dossiers created till 4.1 version with Waterfall chart, and opened in 4.2 version will show in Horizontal Axis only. So, there is no problem in backwards compatibility of the Waterfall chart.
Below are the screenshots of Waterfall chart created in 4.1 version and opened in 4.2 version of Vitara charts
This is the dossier created in the 4.2 version shown with vertical axis by default.
In the Column, Bar, Stacked column, Stacked bar, Waterfall, Trellis, Heatmap, Line, Sparkline, Area charts there is a new option from 4.4 version in Axis Label property ‘Show Attribute ID’ which is enabled by default. The dossier created till 4.3 version of Vitara Column chart with attribute forms enabled, the chart will show only the Desc and ID in the Category axis labels but, where as if we open the same dossier in 4.4 build we can see there is an option to ‘Hide/Show Attribute ID’. Now, we can see the Desc and ID in the Category axis labels as the ‘Show attribute ID’ is enabled by default.
Below is the example of column chart, where the attribute forms are enabled in the 126.96.36.1992 version of Vitara charts.
The same dossier when opened in 4.4 version will show the attribute ID enabled form by default.
An update to the data labels in the Pie chart, where you can see the Metric Total in the pie chart when ‘Show Total in Center Label’ is enabled in the 188.8.131.524 build version. In earlier versions you can see only the hovered values only and the dossier which is created in 3.9 build and opened in 4.0 build will not show the Total, as it is not enabled by default.
Below, are the examples in the 3.9 and 4.0 builds.
In the below Pie chart, the center text is showing the Highlighted element ‘Electronics 2015 Q4’ 8.6% value.
In the below Pie chart, the center text is showing the element ‘Books 2015 Q1’ 0.6% value and the show total is in disabled state.
In the pie chart, the center text is showing the element ‘Cost 22M’ value and the show total is in enabled state.
By default font changed to Arial from Times New Roman in 4.2. The dossier or document created in 4.0 Grid chart and opened in 4.2 version will display the Arial font.
In the 4.1 version you can see the default font is Times New Roman.
In the 4.2 version you can see the default font is Arial.
A change is made in Grid chart property in the 4.2 build, where by default the children count be in hidden mode. In the earlier versions it used to be in unhidden mode till 4.1 version.
In the 4.1 version you can see by default the children count is in Unhidden mode.
In the 4.2 version you can see by default the children count is hidden.
From the 4.3 version of the Vitara Grid chart, the Icons are replaced by Markers. So, the dossiers created till 4.2 version with the thresholds having Icons will be replaced by markers. And by default the marker in 4.3 build will be in disabled state.
Below is the screenshot where the threshold editors are shown with Icons in 4.2 build and Markers in 4.3 build.
