Backward Compatibility

Adding the new features or updates is not backwards compatible. According to the definition of the Backwards compatibility, which states that response from the old version of the Vitara Charts should still be valid in the newer versions.

All minor updates and bug fixes are implemented to preserve compatibility with existing properties. Major updates that significantly change the behaviour of the Vitara charts. Users may need to make some changes in order to make use of the new functionality.

Changes of Backwards compatibility in the Vitara charts

Report Services Documents : Use of attributes in colummns or Metrics in Rows

This only applies to report services documents, not to dossiers. VitaraCharts requires that the user place attributes in rows and metrics in columns. This is done in the design mode of report services documents. Prior to 4.2 this was not checked for explicitly and VitaraCharts appeared to work in some cases. Starting with version 4.2 you will see an explicit error raised when you place an attribute in the column or when you place metrics in rows. In version 4.1 the error was only raised when metrics were in rows. In other words, if you have a document saved prior to 4.1, where you place attributes in columns or metrics in rows, the chart will no longer render and you will see an error message. You have to just go to the design mode and move the attributes to rows and metrics to columns.

Fonts in Charts created prior to 4.1 now look different (in 4.2 and newer)

Please review this page for details on how to fix this issue.

Stack Totals in Stacked Bar/ Column charts

Stack Totals for Stacked Bar/Column charts are enabled (by default) only for charts created/modified after version 4.0. The dossiers created with stacked bar/column charts in 3.9 build when opened in 4.0 to 4.3 versions will by default show the stack totals.

As per the customer requirement of backwards compatibility from 3.9 version, again the Stack totals are disabled by default in 4.4.2.618 version of Vitara charts.

Below are the screenshots in 3.9 and 4.0 versions, where stacktotals cannot be seen in 3.9 build and can be seen in 4.0 to 4.3 builds by default.

Waterfall default styling update
